5 Reasons Why This Eyebrow Trend Is Not for Everybody

From Korean superstars like Song Hye Kyo and Jiyoung to supermodels in the West (we’re looking at you, Cara Delevingne), the dark, bushy, and utterly pin-straight Korean brow trend that had taken the world by storm two years ago is finally showing signs of fading.

Thank goodness, we say. And here’s why:

1. Every face is unique

Just like how no two thumbprints are the same, there aren’t two faces that are identical either. The shape of each person’s face, eyes, and contours of the facial features are unique, which means that the ideal, most flattering eyebrow for each person is also different. The wrong eyebrow shape can distort your face and features, making your eyes look droopy or even squinty.

2. It just isn’t you

Your eyebrows are a very integral part of your face – it frames your eyes and lends balance and proportion to the overall face structure and silhouette. Which is to say that your eyebrows are practically like an extension of your personality. And if your personality isn’t suited to the straightforward brashness of the thick K-Pop brow, then it’s totally the wrong brow for you. An arched brow gives a softer look to the face, and lends femininity to your facial features. Add straight, bushy brows to an angular face and you may give off a masculine vibe. Which is great if you are, but if you love frills and flouncy skirts, then not so much.

3. It can make you look fierce – and not in a good way

Plenty of women are embracing the luxuriant, ultra-thick Korean-style brow because it’s touted to give a more youthful appearance but on women who have more delicate features, it can backfire, making you look fierce and unapproachable.

4. It’s high-maintenance

Especially if you have naturally thin or sparse brows. The pre-requisite of the Korean straight brow is that it has to be voluminous and full, so imagine the battles you have to fight with against nature if you’re not blessed with the necessary hirsute genes. We’re exhausted just thinking about it.
